Music and Art Around 2010
I Music and Art Around 2010 medvirker: ARKEN, Det Kongelige Danske Musikkonservatorium, DR Symfoniorkestret, Dunkers Kulturhus, GL Strand, Helsingborgs Symfoniorkester, Kunsthal Charlottenborg, Lunds Konsthall, Malmö Konsthall, Malmö Symfoniorkester, Moderna Museet Malmö, Musik i Syd, Musikhögskolan i Malmö, Sjællands Symfoniorkester og Statens Museum for Kunst.
Music and Art Around 2010
Festival of classical music and contemporary art in the Oresund Region
As part of the 10th anniversary celebration of the Oresund Region, some of the best music and art institutions on both sides of the Sound are partnering for the first time ever to produce an extensive program of exhibitions, concerts, seminars and music at the art institutions. Music and Art Around, which will be held 6–31 October, spotlights the region as a centre of music and contemporary art at a high international level.
Music and Art Around 2010 highlights the dynamic music and art institutions of the region and presents the rich cultural offering found on both sides of the Sound. The hope is to entice the public – both residents of the entire Danish/Swedish region and visitors – to visit several institutions, travel across the bridge for new experiences and “get around”.
Music and Art Around 2010 has the following participants: ARKEN, the Royal Danish Academy of Music, Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Dunkers Kulturhus, GL Strand, Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, Kunsthal Charlottenborg, Lunds konsthall, Malmö Konsthall, Malmö Symphony Orchestra, Moderna Museet Malmö, Musik i Syd, the Malmö Academy of Music, Copenhagen Philharmonic and the National Gallery of Denmark.
Within the framework of Music & Art Around, a series of concerts will be held at the art institutions – musical experiences in inspiring environments and perhaps even an arena for further experimentation between music and art that challenges the audience's expectations.
Music and Art Around has grown out of the Music Around festival established in 2002 – a unique collaboration between the orchestral institutions of the Oresund Region that is arranged every other year with varying themes. Now, for the first time ever, a collaboration has been created with contemporary art that helps to draw attention to and entice more people to enjoy the large and superior art of international importance found within the region.
The musical theme for 2010 is “Beginnings” and covers music from the first ten years of each century, starting from 1600–1610 up until our own time, 2000–2010. In addition to the orchestras performing concerts on their own stages and giving guest performances on each others' stages, the festival will be graced with the music of the Lahti Symphony Orchestra from Finland. Chamber music, seminars and workshops round out the extensive music program.
Administration of the festival is handled by Musik i Syd in partnership with the Golden Days secretariat in Copenhagen.
